Vanilla French Toast

This is the best thing since sliced bread….ba-da-bum! I’ve read several recipes which call for the use of Challah bread. If you don’t know what this is, it’s essentially egg bread. It’s more yellow in color, lighter but also more flavorful, and it really does help elevate your average white/wheat bread dipped into your batter to a more memorable breakfast/brunch experience. It is a little more expensive than that average loaf you’re used to buying, but really try it. If you’re worried you’ll have leftovers, I can assure you will not. I have another awesome recipe for you that uses the same kind of bread, plus the bonus idea of using the bread to make great grilled cheese, croquet monsieur, or a great tuna melt.

Back to this Vanilla French Toast. How can you resist this? You CAN’T! MAKE IT NOW!

Vanilla French Toast

Ingredients

  • 6 slices Challah bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 c. heavy cream
  • 1 T. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • pinch of salt

Cooking Directions

  1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, cream, cinnamon, vanilla and salt.
  2. Heat a large pan with a small pad of butter over medium heat. When butter has melted, dip each slice of bread into the bowl individually and add to the hot pan.
  3. Cook 2-3 minutes, then flip over the slices of bread and cook for another 1-2 minutes checking for light brown, slightly toasted sides. When cooked through, remove and keep warm on a plate while you finish the other slices of french toast.
  4. For a nice finishing touch, dust a little confection sugar on top, or add berries.
